Chris Townsend stepped out into the role of independent VFX supervisor joining former ILM colleague and Academy Award-winner Eric Brevig on Journey to the Center of the Earth, the first ever full-length stereoscopic motion picture shot in High Definition to be released in Digital 3D cinemas.
If you missed us at NAB 2008, here are some images from the show floor. Highlights included never-ending demonstrations of our DualStream stereoscopic technology, workflow integration with partners at the booth and around the show, and – of course – the debut of SpeedGrade XR with its universal RAW support – the perfect companion application for the new crop of Digital Cinema cameras.
IRIDAS customers Rob Taylor and Mike McCormick are driven by the passion to tell stories. San Diego’s Pendulum Studios is about creating the right pipeline to tell each story that comes their way. Kim Libreri doesn’t come across as the leader in VFX technology that he is. He barely appears in the ‘making of’ featurettes that accompany every Matrix movie DVD. “Working with a team of talented and enthusiastic artists and animators is the most rewarding part of my job,” says Warren Grub, VFX Supervisor at Atlanta’s Fathom Studios where he is part of the ambitious Delgo project, the first independently produced computer animated feature film in the U.S. “I feel I can take a vision from the director, translate that to the team and, almost like magic, watch the rough shots come to life every day.”
Delgo is a fantasy adventure set in an imaginary land conceived entirely in the imagination, and realized entirely with CG animation. The star-studded voice cast, includes Jennifer Love Hewitt, Val Kilmer, Anne Bancroft, Chris Kattan, Eric Idle, Malcolm McDowell, Burt Reynolds, Lou Gossett, Jr. and others. Another exciting first in this production is that the public can follow the making of this film as it happens. At www.Delgo.com visitors can view the Digital Dailies from the project as they are completed.
We spoke with Warren about Delgo and how IRIDAS products help him and his team make the magic.
