Getting Closer to the Looks I Want
Robert Royds
Director of Photography, Los Angeles, California
Fresh from film school, Robert Royds has already gotten
his hands dirty as camera operator on three feature films. One of these,
Your Name Here, is a comedy starring Bill Pulman. "He was a
riot to work with. There was this one shot where I had to run right at
him, almost into him. We just looked at each other afterwards and
laughed. It was a lot fun."
Most recently, Robert was the Cinematographer for
Eyes of Samir, a horror short which premiered at the 2006 New York
City Horror Film Festival. "I heard about SpeedGrade OnSet from
fellow DP and Post Supervisor Samuel Brownfield when I was doing my post
color corrections in preparation for our final timing. He told me it
would do exactly I was doing with Photoshop, but that I was doing it the
hard way. After checking out SpeedGrade OnSet, I changed my post
workflow. SpeedGrade OnSet was easy to use and a lot faster. I suddenly
had a whole lot more free time!"
"Horror films are a lot of fun to work on. You can
push the storytelling elements of filmmaking to new places, where other
genres are less forgiving."
"The big thing about SpeedGrade OnSet is that it
allows me to make the corrections I need to make in less time before I
get in the suite. It allows me to get closer to the looks I want and
having the JPEGs to show the colorist was a huge advantage."
Cinematographer Robert Royds, graduated from the Brooks
Institute of Photography in Ventura, California in June, 2006.
